Wellfound vs QuratedAI: A Comparison of Startup Discovery and AI Matchmaking
Wellfound gives you a startup market to explore. QuratedAI reads job postings against your resume and sends the ones that hold up. Here is how the two approaches differ.

Wellfound's jobs page said it carried over 130,000 remote and local startup jobs when we read it on 1 September 2026. Its candidate overview, read the same day, says 27,000+ startups hire there. QuratedAI holds no job board you can browse. It reads more than 12,000 company career pages every morning and scores each posting against your resume out of 10, per How it works, read 1 September 2026. That is the Wellfound vs QuratedAI comparison in one line. One product hands you a startup market to explore. The other decides which postings reach you at all.
What we can and cannot tell you
The Wellfound side of this page comes from Wellfound's own pages and from one live listing, linked where each claim sits. The QuratedAI side comes from our own product pages, which is a company describing its own software.
We did not run a test. Nobody here counted how many startup jobs appear on one product and not the other, or measured whose matching is more accurate. Neither side of this article says anything about interviews or offers.
Key facts
- Wellfound's candidate overview, read 1 September 2026, states 27,000+ startups hiring, over 10 million candidates, and 100,000+ hires made.
- The same page says applying is always free for candidates, and that your profile is the application, with no cover letters.
- One live listing, a PriceLabs marketing role opened 1 September 2026, showed a salary band of ₹12L to ₹20L, a remote work policy of remote only, and "Hires remotely in India". It also marked visa sponsorship as not available and relocation as not allowed.
- QuratedAI's coverage page, read 1 September 2026, says it reads 12,000+ curated company career pages every morning, plus the Y Combinator board, Hacker News hiring threads, remote boards, major job boards and targeted search.
- The same page says QuratedAI's coverage is strongest for India-based and remote-friendly roles, and that US-onsite coverage is deliberately thin.
What makes Wellfound different from a general job board?
The pool is picked before you search it. Wellfound's candidate overview, read 1 September 2026, describes a marketplace built for startup and tech roles, at companies from two-person seed teams up to public ones.
On a general board you filter a national labour market down to tech. Here the tech companies are the market, and what you are filtering is stage, size and how the company works.
The company cards on wellfound.com/jobs, read 1 September 2026, carry headcount bands and a line on what the company does. Some also carry badges such as "Early Stage" and "Growing fast". The page explains the second one as strong hiring growth in the past month.
The cards show companies as well as vacancies. That is the real difference, and it is the thing QuratedAI does not do.
What can you learn about a startup before applying?
More than most postings anywhere will tell you.
The PriceLabs listing we opened on 1 September 2026 carried a headcount band of 201-500, the company's industries and its office locations. Below that sat a funding history showing $30M raised across one round, with a Series A dated June 2022. Below that again, named founders with their locations, and a list of companies previous employees joined from.
It also showed two response signals. One badge said the company sits in the top 10% for response time to applications. Another said it usually responds within a week, and the page states this is based on past data.
Read that carefully. It describes how quickly applications on Wellfound have been answered before. It is not a promise about your application, and Wellfound does not present it as one.
QuratedAI sends nothing of this sort. A match arrives with a score out of 10, the reasons behind it and any red flags, per How it works, read 1 September 2026.
Does Wellfound show salary and equity upfront?
On most listings, yes, and the equity part is unusual.
Wellfound's candidate overview, read 1 September 2026, says most listings include the salary range and equity details upfront. The cards on wellfound.com/jobs that morning bore this out, carrying bands such as $170k to $200k with 0.2% to 0.4% equity, or ₹12L to ₹20L, or a plain "No equity" label where none is offered.
The word upfront is doing real work there. An equity band on the card is information most job seekers never see until an offer conversation, if then.
QuratedAI has nothing equivalent. Our matching profile holds a salary floor, and postings that break it are set aside before scoring, per How it works, read 1 September 2026. That is a rule applied to a posting rather than a compensation dataset you can research against.
Can you tell whether a remote Wellfound job hires in your country?
Often you can, and this is the most useful part of the page for anyone applying from outside the company's home market.
The PriceLabs listing, read 1 September 2026, carried six separate fields on this question. Remote work policy: remote only. A line reading "Hires remotely in India". Company locations across Chicago, Seattle, Porto, Jaipur and Mumbai. Preferred timezones. Relocation: not allowed. Visa sponsorship: not available.
Between them they answer the question most remote listings leave open.
Two limits on that. What the listing said is what the company wrote in those fields on that date, and nothing more. It is not a statement about how the company will treat an application, and we are not reading it as one. Second, one listing tells you what one listing showed. We did not count how many listings fill these fields in.
Wellfound's remote guide, read 1 September 2026, says remote listings state their remote policy explicitly, including timezone expectations and whether the company hires globally or in specific countries.
What happens after you create a Wellfound profile?
Companies can find you. That is the design, and Wellfound is direct about it.
Its get discovered page, read 1 September 2026, says recruiters and founders source directly on the platform, and that AI sourcing surfaces profiles for matching roles. Selected profiles get a Featured spotlight running eight weeks at a time. Profiles not selected still appear in recruiter searches. The same page says your search stays invisible to your current employer and that you can snooze or opt out from settings.
QuratedAI has no version of this. The matching profile holds target roles, skills, location, experience, work mode and a salary floor. It carries no name, no email and no phone number, as set out on How it works and the privacy page, both read 1 September 2026. There is no employer-facing search, because there is no employer side of the product.
That is a difference in what exists, not a claim that one company handles your data better than the other. If being found by founders is what you want, the product without a recruiter side cannot give it to you.
Can you apply without filling out the same application repeatedly?
On Wellfound, that is the stated mechanic. Its candidate overview, read 1 September 2026, says you build one profile and apply to any job with a single click, with no cover letters, and that replies come from founders and hiring managers.
The same page documents an AI interview: one recorded conversational call that goes out with every application you send. Wellfound says applications with an interview attached are seen first. That is Wellfound's description of its own ranking, and there is no way for us to check it.
QuratedAI submits nothing anywhere. A match carries the original job link and you apply on the company's own site.
Is your resume enough on Wellfound?
Wellfound's answer is that the resume is only part of it. The get discovered page, read 1 September 2026, says profiles showing real work get pitched most, naming projects, links and skills, and advises setting salary and remote preferences so incoming pitches fit.
So there are two audiences for what you write there. A hiring manager reading your application, and a recruiter searching for someone with your skills.
QuratedAI reads the resume for one purpose. It becomes the matching profile, and it is the reference every score is measured against. A side project with a live demo helps you on Wellfound in a way it cannot help you inside a system comparing a posting to a document.
"I only want startup jobs. Why would I need QuratedAI?"
You may not.
If startups are specifically what you want, Wellfound is built around exactly that market. It shows salary and equity on the listing, funding history, headcount, stage, founders and past response times. It lets founders pitch you without you applying to anything. It costs candidates nothing. If you enjoy reading about companies and deciding for yourself which ones are interesting, a large part of your problem is already solved.
There is also a coverage point that runs against us. QuratedAI's coverage page, read 1 September 2026, says US-onsite coverage is deliberately thin. A great deal of what we saw on Wellfound on 1 September 2026 was US-based. If US startup roles in an office are your target, Wellfound is the product built for that and we are not.
What QuratedAI does sits at a different point in the week. Its sources reach past any single marketplace, including targeted search for roles posted on a Tally or Airtable form that no index carries. Everything collected is checked against your hard rules, then read against your full resume and scored 1 to 10, with reasons and red flags attached.
The comparison is about who reads the postings. On Wellfound you do, with unusually good information to help you. On QuratedAI a system reads them first and shows you its working.
Which one fits the problem you actually have?
| If this is your problem | What matters |
|---|---|
| I want to work at a startup specifically | Wellfound's startup-only marketplace |
| I want the funding, headcount, stage and founders before applying | Wellfound's company and listing pages |
| I want salary and equity visible before I apply | Wellfound listings, which its FAQ says show both on most roles |
| I need to know whether a remote role hires in my country | Wellfound's remote policy, hiring-country and timezone fields, where the listing fills them in |
| I want founders and recruiters to find me | Wellfound's candidate profile and Featured spotlight |
| I do not want any employer able to search for me | QuratedAI, which has no recruiter side |
| I am tired of opening postings that were never going to work | QuratedAI's scoring |
| I want to be told why a role was sent and what is wrong with it | QuratedAI's match output |
Several of these rows describe the same person in different months.
What neither product can tell you
Neither one can tell you whether you will get an interview. Wellfound's response badges describe how quickly a company has answered applications in the past, which is not a statement about yours. A QuratedAI score of 9 is a judgement about a posting against a resume, and no more than that.
Neither can tell you what a company will do about work authorisation. A Wellfound listing showing sponsorship as not available tells you what the company put in that field. A listing that says nothing tells you nothing either way.
We also cannot tell you how much the two pools overlap. QuratedAI's coverage page lists the Y Combinator board among its sources, so some early-stage roles will appear in both places. How many, nobody here has counted.
FAQ
Does Wellfound have roles that hire in India? Yes. On 1 September 2026 we saw listings priced in rupees, including a remote-only marketing role quoting ₹12L to ₹20L and hiring remotely in India. Most of what we saw that day was US-based, and we did not count the split.
Does Wellfound show equity? Its FAQ, read 1 September 2026, says most listings show salary and equity upfront. Cards we saw carried percentage bands on some roles and an explicit "No equity" label on others.
Can companies find my Wellfound profile? Yes. The get discovered page, read 1 September 2026, says founders and recruiters source directly on Wellfound and that AI sourcing surfaces profiles for matching roles. Visibility settings are yours to control.
Does QuratedAI replace Wellfound? No. QuratedAI has no browseable listings, no company profiles and no way for an employer to contact you. If you want to explore the startup market, that is Wellfound's job.
What the data says
Wellfound documents a startup-only marketplace of over 130,000 listings from 27,000+ startups. Salary and equity appear on most listings. Funding, headcount, stage and past response times appear on company and job pages. Remote listings carry policy and hiring-country fields. Applications are one click from a profile that recruiters and founders can search.
QuratedAI documents daily collection across 12,000+ curated company career pages and seven other source families. Hard rules run before scoring. What survives is scored 1 to 10 against the full resume, with reasons and red flags. The matching profile carries no name, email or phone number, and there is no recruiter side.
Overlap, matching accuracy and hiring outcomes are untested for both.
What we think it means
The two products act at different moments.
Wellfound is strongest once a role is in front of you. Very few places tell you the equity band, the funding round, the headcount and how fast the company has replied before, all on one page. The information density is the reason to use it.
QuratedAI is built for the part before that, when the problem is how many postings you have to open before one is worth an evening. It reads them against your resume and sends the few that hold up, with the reasons written out so you can disagree with the machine.
If you do not have enough startup roles to look at, more browsing helps. If you have too many roles to read, more browsing makes it worse.
Your move
- Open one remote listing on Wellfound and check whether the hiring-country, timezone and relocation fields are filled in. Two minutes, and it tells you how much you can trust the word remote on that role.
- Take your last ten applications and write down, for each one, the sentence in the posting you should have read before applying. That list is your red flag set.
- Set your salary floor and the cities you will not take, in writing. Most people carry these in their head and then read postings that break both.
QuratedAI reads company career pages and other sources every morning, scores each posting against your resume out of 10, and sends the ones that hold up with the reasons and red flags attached. Our homepage, read 1 September 2026, says signing up takes no card and Free is a plan you can stay on. Create your profile.
